Reopening of School Buildings from February 11th 2021

All families have today been notified of the rota for the return of pupils to school buildings.
08-February-21

In line with the Dept. of Education guidance, in-school classes will resume on February 11th 2021 on a 50% capacity basis both on transport and in classrooms. The Dept. of Education has indicated that this interim arrangement will be for a fortnight but we have laid out a calendar (see below) for the next four weeks, in case it is extended. The calendar is subject to change, depending on the circumstances that arise within the school and/or further guidance from the Dept. of Education & Public Health agencies.

Please remember to dress your child in layers of warm clothing, including a coat with hood, hat, gloves etc. as we are required to keep rooms ventilated and go outdoors as regularly as possible, weather permitting.

Bus escorts will be in touch in due course regarding pick-up times. Parents using school transport will be required to initial a form each morning confirming that their child is well, is not living with anyone either self-isolating, restricting movement or confirmed as having Covid19 and that the pupil has not been given temperature-controlling medication. This on-board form will also assist with contact-tracing, if it should be required. Parents wishing to bring/collect their child to/from school in their own cars can avail of a new Dept. of Education scheme for a retrospective expenses claim from Dept. of Education. Further details are available on www.education.ie. If collecting/dropping off your child, please ensure you park carefully in designated parking areas at the front or rear of the building; wear a face-covering; remain outside the school; observe social distancing. Your child will be collected from you/returned to you as soon as a member of staff is available.

Until further notice, pupils who normally avail of school dinners should bring a packed lunch as well as their morning snack as the school kitchen is not currently operating.

Return to School Form: As before, every pupil is required to bring with them a completed HSE “Return to School” form when returning to school after any and all absences. A copy of the form has been emailed/posted to all families.

The Dept. of Education has announced a scheme of “In-person Supplementary Programme to Support the Education or Care Needs of pupils with complex needs during this period of school closure”. The school has no role in arranging this scheme. If parents/guardians engage a teacher/SNA to provide out-of hours home-based support, it is a private arrangement between the family and staff-member. The forms can be downloaded from www.education.ie or are available, by request, from the school. The forms require to be stamped and signed by school administration prior to families making a claim for payment from the Dept. of Education.

At the time of writing, there is a possibility of significant snowfall during the coming days. Please keep an eye on the school’s website (www.smhballymunschool.ie) regarding any updates and weather alerts, in case they have a bearing on school transport and school building reopening. However, we remain optimistic and we look forward to seeing everyone again soon and to continuing the work of our Spring term.
