SMH Ballymun SpNS is fortunate to be located in an area where students can experience various aspects of the natural and built environment from the beautiful gardens and curvilinear houses of the National Botanical Gardens [www.opw.ie], to Dublin City University (DCU) and the Helix Theatre [www.dcu.ie], Albert College Park [http://wwwwww.dublincity.ie/main-menu-services-recreation-culture-dublin-city-parks-visit-park/albert-college-], Ballymun Local Library, to name but a few.

Access to local businesses in Ballymun, Ballygall & Glasnevin allows students to practice shopping and money management skills while the public bus routes enable some students to work on Travel Training Skills, especially important for students transitioning to Adult Services.

Our school promotes positive relationships with local Primary and second-level schools through shared activities and fundraising. Our school promotes teaching and learning across all ages and so the Board facilitates some teacher-training placements and observations each year insofar as these can be reasonably accommodated.

Local groups such as Glasnevin Bridge Club [http://www.glasnevinbridgeclub.com] and Glasnevin Lawn Tennis Club [http://glasnevintennis.com] actively support the work of our school.
