Mission Statement and Ethos

Our Mission Statement

Our school is a stimulating centre of education where each person is cherished as an individual whose ability, potential and needs are recognised and nurtured. The teachers, staff and multidisciplinary clinical teams provide a challenging, sensitive and caring environment which fosters personal, social, academic development, independence and achievement.

So, who are we and what do we do?

St. Michael’s House Special National School (Ballymun) is one of six Special National Schools in the Dublin area under the patronage of St. Michael’s House organisation and funded by the Department of Education & Skills (DES). Clinical and family support services for our pupils are provided by St. Michael’s House, on a referral basis. As a Dept. of Education school [Roll Number 18763F], the school operates under the Rules for National Schools and additional Directives and Circulars which issue from the DES and National Council for Special Education (NCSE). Our school ethos is in keeping with the ethos of St. Michael’s House.

This school is a co-educational, multi-denominational Special National School. In line with our Enrolment Policy, our school caters to the abilities and needs of pupils up to eighteen years of age who have been assessed as having a Moderate, Severe or Profound General Learning Disability, subject to availability of places and resources in appropriate class-groups.
